A more affordable alternative to cod, Atlantic Pollock (pollachius virens) is a versatile, firm-fleshed, white fish with a sweet, mild flavor. The loin is the highest quality cut, thicker and denser than fillets. Atlantic Pollock, a different species than Alaska pollock, tastes similar to cod or haddock. Pollock is low in saturated fat and is an excellent source of protein, vitamin B12, phosphorus, and selenium. It is often used to make fish and chips.
